Students in the blockade of the faculties of Novi Sad have announced a protest for January 17, and the rally will be held on Freedom Square, probably in the afternoon.
The detailed program of the meeting should be published by the students from Wednesday, and for now it is known that the stage will be on Freedom Square in Novi Sad and that the rally should start in the afternoon.
There will be several speakers on stage, students, who should present the basic ideas of the program they want to apply for elections, as well as the way in which it will act further, learns Danas.
It is also certain that the students will once again request the calling of extraordinary parliamentary elections. The program will probably last from one to two hours.
According to the announcements of the students, that gathering should pave the way for their further actions, and the reason for the gathering is the huge support they enjoy from the citizens.
Students in the blockade ended the year 2025 with the action "Declare Victory", when on December 28 they collected 400.000 signatures from citizens in just one day.
"We want to start this year with a direct address to our fellow citizens. We have shown that we have the people's trust, we have shown that we have not disappeared. We are still actively fighting for responsibility, and there are clear ways to achieve responsibility in institutions," Novi Sad students told Danas.
Institutions in Serbia "poisoned by party influences"
They pointed out that the institutions in Serbia "poisoned by party influences" that public officials use their position to break the law for personal gain, that human lives are neglected so that institutions remain under the control of the party, that politicians and businessmen inexplicably get rich, while the majority of people live paycheck to paycheck.
"The first step towards the healing of society is the healing of institutions from the poison of corruption. The reason for the meeting on January 17 is not counting, but direct communication of our intentions and further steps. We want to show that solutions exist, that institutions are not permanently trapped, that this country needs people who work in the service of citizens, not for personal gain. Novi Sade, see you," the students announced.
In the announcement of the protest on Instagram, on the profiles of several faculty at the blockade, students rhetorically ask, "What does a violation of human rights look like?"
"The media that systematically publish falsehoods and misinformation, violate the right to privacy, insult, stigmatize individuals and social groups and deliberately expose them to public lynching. Such behavior is a violation of professional ethical standards of journalism, as well as possible violations of the law (endangerment of reputation and honor, hate speech, misuse of personal data)," announced the students in the blockade.
As they pointed out, recorded cases of excessive use of force by police officers, illegal arrests and use of illegal means to control public order may represent serious abuse of official position, misdemeanors and criminal acts, as well as violations of constitutionally guaranteed rights of citizens.
"Proceedings in a health facility where data on injured students and citizens were provided to the media without their consent would represent a serious violation of the right to protection of personal data and medical confidentiality. Responsibility for such actions must be clearly established in accordance with the law," they add.
"Students have a solution. January 17, Novi Sad!", they conclude in the announcement.
