The Alek Kavčić Foundation and the informal group of IT experts, the Network of Solidarity for Education, have formed platforms to collect money for teachers and teaching staff who did not receive wages due to suspension working in schools. So far, according to data from the IT community, as of March 18, through the platform Solidarity.org 33,5 million dinars were paid for teachers and teaching staff, writes Katarina Pantelić for The new economy.
According to data received by New Economy from the IT community, there are 892 recipients of this assistance, while 75 elementary, 37 secondary schools and 30 high schools are included in the action.
"Our model works so that you sign up as a donor, and when it's your turn, we connect you directly with an educator who needs help. Then we send you payment instructions directly to their account," explained the informal group of IT experts.
As they clarified, this means that the money is not collected in one centralized account, but that transactions take place peer-to-peer (from a natural person to a natural person).
"When it's the donor's turn, we link it to the teacher's account, and after payment, the money is immediately deposited into the educator's account, without an intermediary," they stated.
Additional support
In addition to the IT community, everyone who wants to, not only people who work in this sector, can help educators in their struggle.
In addition to the IT community, the Alek Kavčić Foundation opened a segment on its website at the beginning of March through which donations can be sent to teachers and teaching staff in schools.
The founder of the foundation, Alek Kavčić, published on his X account a cross-section of the balance, in which it is stated that 41,8 million dinars have been donated to date for staff in education who have been "deprived of their salary".
He stated that 8,3 million dinars were paid to educators, and that the total number of aid recipients was 497.
He added that verification through schools is being accelerated, and that the payment to teachers and extracurricular staff has just begun.
No February salary
At the end of February, the Government and the Ministry of Education announced that all teachers, professors and teachers who did not hold classes in schools will receive a reduced salary.
As stated in one of the announcements, it is planned that the number of working hours for February "will be calculated according to the records of the effective working hours for each employee within the forty-hour working week".
Now former minister Slavica Đukić Dejanović said that everyone who works in education "will have to make up for what they missed".
"Everyone who works in education will have to make up for what they missed. The moment they make up, that is, when they start teaching classes normally, they will be paid everything and the part that will be reduced for February. We will compensate them for everything, when they make up for teaching. Salary goes to performance, even though they come to schools now, they do not pass on knowledge to students, and that is their job. We are not punishing anyone, it is simply a fact that the salary is earned by the effect of work, which does not exist now," she said. minister.
Thus, some teachers, teachers and professors participating in the suspension of classes did not receive their February salaries.
It was on this occasion that the Alek Kavčić Foundation and the IT community decided to open websites for donations.
