Ministry of Education will propose to the Government of Serbia that to students enable enrollment in the budget even with less than 48 ESPB points, Danas was told in that ministry.
According to unofficial information Today, there will be no amendment to the Law on Higher Education, which would lower the limit for the budget, but the Government is going to adopt a conclusion that would enable students to enroll in the next school year.
The Ministry reminds that the Law defines that a student must achieve 48 ECTS in the current year in order to be able to continue to be financed from the budget or to acquire that right at all if he was self-financing.
"The Ministry of Education is aware of the limitations in teaching, organization and the dynamics of conducting exams and will propose to the Government of Serbia to accept funding for the education of all students who are ranked within the budget quotas, i.e. up to the number of students who are studying at the expense of the budget this school year. The ranking is based on the number of ESPB points and success", the Ministry states.
A proposal to reduce the requirements for next year's enrollment
They also announce that they will recommend to higher education institutions where there is a requirement for enrollment in the next year of study for self-financed students, to consider the possibility of reducing this requirement, based on the analysis of passing the exams, bearing in mind that the Law does not recognize the requirement for enrollment in the next year of study, but that is regulated by the institutions independently.
According to Danas' information, some faculties have already made decisions to reduce the lower limit for enrollment in the next year of study for self-financed academics.
At some faculties, students have started to sign a petition to be granted additional exam dates, and if the Government makes the aforementioned conclusion and it is possible to reach the budget status with less than 48 points, there should be no reason for additional exam dates.
Request from the Rector's Collegium
One of the requests of the Extended Rector's College of the University of Belgrade to the competent authorities was to adopt a Government decision recommending the enrollment of students financed from the budget until the last year's number of budget places is filled, regardless of the number of achieved ESPB points in the previous school year.
Such a solution, they remind, was also brought by the Government's conclusion of October 8, 2020, at the time of the covid epidemic.
The extended rector's collegium of UB also demanded that student scholarships, loans and places in student dormitories be distributed in full, with the necessary changes to the competition criteria, if there are unassigned scholarships and loans and remaining vacant places in the dormitories, as well as that all beneficiaries who graduate in the extended year until the end of the 2025/26 academic year be exempted from paying back their student loans. year.
The Ministry of Education announced that the refund of 50 percent of tuition fees to self-financing students will be returned during October.
