U Čačak all "cold operations" were suspended at the hospital, temporary measures were introduced and teams from clinical centers in Kragujevac and Belgrade were dispatched, who will perform operations that cannot be postponed and will monitor the system, said the Minister of Health Zlatibor Lončar for Radio Television of Serbia.
Lončar, on the occasion of two deaths following tonsillectomy at that hospital, said that the inspections will determine everything, and the prosecutor's office also got involved.
"I don't want to prejudge who is responsible. Whatever the investigation determines, if it determines who is responsible, it will be sanctioned and citizens should not have a dilemma," said Lončar and called on everyone to be patient in order to establish the facts and not make mistakes now if things are done faster.
"We are waiting for the results of the autopsy, so that we can cross-reference the reports and come to a conclusion, until then all operations have been suspended at the ENT in Čačak," he said.
Lončar pointed out that at this moment it is not possible to determine whether or not there was a medical error, but he warns that it must never happen again that discharge lists are sent via Viber and that there is no communication with the family.
Lončar said that 7.168 operations were performed in the hospital in Čačak last year, of which 500 were tonsil operations, but after these cases, the entire system in that hospital must be checked.
The entire system will be under surveillance, everything that is done in the hospital, until we are 100 percent convinced that everything is safe, he said.
Lončar expressed his condolences to the families of the girl and the young man who died in the hospital in Čačak after tonsillectomy.
