Protect the identity of Belgrade
Only Hall 1 would not be demolished because it is protected by law, and instead of the other halls, the construction of residential buildings is planned.
Architect Zorica Rančić called on colleagues from the profession, architects, urban planners and security guards to protect Belgrade's identity together so that it does not look like cities born from the dust that resemble each other and that "the genius of our minds and our hands is not taken over by imported clothing".
He adds that everyone wants Belgrade to develop, but sustainable development is not about demolishing everything at any cost in order to build something, but about preserving one's cultural identity and everything valuable, and that there are plenty of places in Belgrade where one can build.
According to her, the demolition of halls 2 and 3 must not be allowed because they are of equal value to hall 1, which is planned to be preserved.
During the address to the media, it was announced that in ten days the movement will invite representatives of the profession to support the document on the need to preserve the Fair, which is currently being drafted.
"For the past seven decades, the fair was not only a commercial object, it was at the service of citizens during the floods of 2014, the quarantine during the corona virus, a vaccination point. Generations of students took college entrance exams there. In crisis situations, he was always there for the people of Belgrade, and now the time has come to protect him, so that he can serve future generations as well", the text of the petition states.
Land value
In the official papers published on the APR website, it is written that the area of the Belgrade Fair is 243.233 square meters, or slightly more than 24 hectares of construction land. Bearing in mind that the price per square meter of the plot located in the immediate vicinity, which has already been purchased by Belgrade, is on the water, it can be concluded that the value of the entire land is around 119,2 million euros, he writes. Nova.rs.
Nevertheless, the President of Serbia stated in his presentation that residential buildings will occupy 12,1 hectares of that space, which means that Belgrade would have to pay at least 50 million euros for that land, if the market price was taken into account.
