Former basketball player Miroslav Mića Berić decided to donate all his jerseys as memories of his great career to an auction for charity educators who were left without wages due to their participation in protests and blockades.
The auction "Mica's jerseys for education" will be held on Thursday, March 20, live from 18.30:XNUMX p.m. on the Nova.rs portal.
"For me, they are perhaps the greatest heroes of today, along with the undisputed students, of course, because they make the greatest sacrifice." They put their backs on the line, and their families are also suffering a lot. And they have their children, it's certainly not pleasant when your salary is 1200 or 2400 dinars, which we are witnessing. "They can no longer live on that 'endure, legend, just keep going'... That's why I made the decision, consciously and with a lot of love, that all these jerseys of mine from our podcast go to an auction to help educators," said Berić in the "Pick and roll" podcast.
He revealed whose support meant the most to him when making a big decision.
"I consulted with my son Alex, his word meant the most to me." And at the same second he said to me - dad do it. We all love basketball here, but what has been happening for months all over Serbia is the most important game of all of us, and their lives, and us old people. I hope that I will start a new avalanche of help, because, I repeat, educators put their backbone in the fight for justice and truth," said Berić.
At the "Mica's jerseys for education" auction, you will find six jerseys that marked his career and another jersey of the Serbian national team with the signatures of Serbian basketball players from Mundobasket in Manila in 2023.
Certainly, the most valuable will be those from the national team and Partizan, the famous jersey of Yugoslavia from the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where we won the silver medal.
The auction will also include the famous blue jersey from the European Championship a year later, when Mića Berić and his teammates became champions of Europe in Barcelona in those same jerseys.
Partizan's jersey from the 1996/1997 season will also be offered. with an authentic captain's armband and jerseys from Verona from the 1999/2000 season, as well as Scavolini, whose colors he defended from 2001 to 2003, and Zalgiris from the 2003/2004 season.
