Portable air conditioners they can be a better solution for people who simply do not have the conditions, or money, to install fixed devices or for those who want to cooling only one room, and on the websites of distributors in Serbia they can be bought for 30.000 dinars and more, depending on the size and brand.
Dejan Andrić from the air conditioning service Bg Cool tells "Vreme" that, if the living conditions allow it, it is always better to choose a fixed air conditioner.
"A portable air conditioner is bad because it sits on the floor, and the point is to have the air conditioner as high as possible in the room, because the warm air is at the top." The point of the air conditioner is to cool the warm air at the top in order to cool the space as quickly as possible," says Andrić.
Higher power consumption and higher noise
He points out that fixed air conditioners are much stronger than portable air conditioners, and that portable air conditioners consume more electricity and create much more noise.
"The biggest problem with portable air conditioners is that they have a huge aspirator hose that has to expel warm air from the room, which is the principle on which all air conditioners work, because in order for the device to cool, it has to expel warm air somewhere," says Andrić. .
He explains that because of this, people often throw out the hose of portable air conditioners through windows that are open to the side, which means that warm air from the outside enters the room, and all this "doesn't make any sense."
Andrić adds that he advises people against buying portable air conditioners if there are conditions for installing fixed air conditioners.
"Purchasing a portable air conditioner is the very last option, if there are really no conditions for installing a fixed air conditioner," advises Andrić.
Attics are an exception.
As an exception, he cites people who live in attics, with sharp and slanted walls where a fixed air conditioner cannot be installed.
He adds that people choose portable air conditioners mainly because they do not require assembly, while the prices of portable air conditioners and fixed air conditioners of the middle class are almost the same, and that the bigger difference in price is noticeable only in the case of fixed air conditioners of the highest class. and the most famous brands.
Andrić reminds that air conditioners expel water while they are working, which in the case of fixed air conditioners is solved by pulling the water drain hose out of the room, which simply solves the problem. This is not the case with portable air conditioners, the container in which the water collects must be constantly emptied.
He says that he mostly sees portable air conditioners with tenants who like to carry the air conditioner with them in the attics.
Andrić states that the only advantages of portable air conditioners are that they can be moved from place to place and that they are simply connected to electricity and are ready to work, while the installation of a fixed air conditioner costs between 150 and 200 euros.
