Due to the suspicion that they transferred money to the accounts of their acquaintances for five and a half years arrested are two workers employed in Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS).
They are suspected of damaging EPS for 4,3 million dinars, and were arrested in an operation by the Criminal Police Directorate and the Special Department for Suppression of Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad.
They are suspected of the criminal offense of abuse of the position of a responsible person in co-perpetration.
The arrested TM (63) and BV (63) are suspected of having, from the beginning of 2018 to the middle of 2023, as employees of EPS, repeatedly transferred the money paid by citizens for the use of electricity to the accounts of their acquaintances who were not paid for electricity.
Also, it is suspected that the citizens' payments for electricity were recorded as settled and thus damaged the company by about 4,3 million dinars.
They were ordered to be detained for up to 48 hours and, with a criminal complaint, will be brought to the competent prosecutor's office.
Previous arrests in EPS
It is just one more in a series of arrests of EPS employees for abuses.
In December 2023, AL from Užice was arrested due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that she had committed the criminal offense of embezzlement in the performance of economic activity. She is suspected of misappropriating the money entrusted to her in the work in the amount of about 2023 dinars while performing the duties of accounting and billing officer for AD "Elektroprivreda Srbije" from March to July 1.959.500.
In June 2023, four employees of the Vranje Elektrodistribucija were arrested on the suspicion that during the control of the meters in the company in Preševo and the entrepreneurial store in Bujanovac, they did not record numerous damages and defects in the minutes, among other things, that consumers should be disconnected from the network due to unauthorized consumption, and thereby damaged EPS by 36,8 million dinars.
In February 2023, six people suspected of having damaged EPS by 7.458.050 US dollars were arrested. On suspicion of abusing their official position, the person responsible for construction supervision of the EPS, TE-KO branch Kostolac V. J, the engineer at EPS NM and the person responsible for the expert supervision of the Traffic Institute CIP over the construction of the industrial track were arrested. ML
