Stop illegal construction?
The President of Serbia announced that the state will propose a law on legalization without a complicated procedure that will solve the issue of 4,8 million illegal buildings by the New Year.
"Those people cannot put those buildings under mortgage, use loans, cannot put them into legal circulation in accordance with the law, cannot dispose of those assets. At the same time, property tax is usually not paid on such buildings, where the state also loses," he said.
Vučić also said that this will "stand in the way of illegal construction".
"We will not threaten to demolish, because the state is never capable of demolishing. Now, if you want to continue to engage in illegal construction in the future, we will not demolish anything for you. We have not been able to do so until now. It will become the property of the state," the president said at the time.
