Organizers of the music festival Exit they assessed on Thursday that the manifestation was "essentially prohibited" in Serbia because of the support they provided to students.
In a statement published on the day when the Exit in Novi Sad started in the previous 26 years, the organizers stated that this event will not be held in Serbia this year because they "chose" not to be silent.
"On this day, 26 years ago, the Exit began. At this time, we would usually rush around the Fortress, finish the last works, get ready to open the gates at 19 p.m. and welcome you with a big smile. Today there is no such thing. There are no Exit flags around the city. There are no tens of thousands of guests from all over the world. There is no euphoria. There is no what our city and country were known for all over the planet," the statement said.
They stated that the Exit is not starting today in Novi Sad "because the gates of freedom in this country are currently closed".
"We will open them all together soon because the students are winning! There is only one home of Exit and we believe that we will see each other again at the Fortress, when we all return freedom to our country together," announced the organizers of the event, which is being held in several locations this year, from Montenegro and Malta to Egypt.
