Businessman Aco Djukanovic, the brother of the former president and prime minister of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, was appointed detention due to reasonable suspicion that he committed a criminal act illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosive substances, announced the Basic State Prosecutor's Office (ODT) in Nikšić.
The announcement states that he was detained due to the risk of flight.
"At the proposal of the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić, A.Đ. was detained due to reasonable suspicion that he had committed the criminal offense of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosive materials. The detention was ordered due to the risk of escape. It is suspected that A.Đ. was in his house in Nikšić without authorization keeping weapons and ammunition," the statement reads.
"Vijesti" announced this morning that while the decision of the investigating judge of the Basic Court in Nikšić, Sava Musikić, is awaited on whether Aco Đukanović will prove from custody that the arsenal of weapons found in the attic of the house in Rastoci is not his, the Podgorica prosecutor's office is also expected to begin a detailed analysis of the documents seized from his apartment in Podgorica.
According to the same information, it is about extensive documentation stored in several folders, which police inspectors seized during the search of the apartment of the brother of former president Milo Đukanović.
The Police Directorate previously officially announced that certain documentation was seized during a search of Đukanović's apartment in the center of Podgorica.

"During the search in Podgorica, police officers seized certain documents, which the competent prosecutor's office was informed about, and a case will be formed for the purpose of further action. Due to the protection of the interests of the police officers, at this moment we are not able to disclose more information about the activities carried out on the territory of Podgorica," the UP announced after the arrest of Đukanović.
"Vijesti" announced two days ago that, according to the newspaper's unofficial information, several expensive watches were listed and photographed during the search of Đukanović's apartment in Vuka Karadžića Street in Podgorica, from where the documents were seized.
After searching his property in Podgorica and Nikšić, two cases were opened.
In the one initiated due to the discovery of weapons and ammunition, an order was passed to conduct an investigation, and prosecutor Vanja Sinđić suggested that the court order him to be detained for up to 30 days.
Last night, Judge Mušikić heard the suspect for illegal possession of weapons, but he did not immediately make a decision on the motion for detention.
One of Đukanović's defense attorneys, lawyer Nikola Martinović, told reporters that the judge has until 2:30 a.m. on March 3 to make a decision, when the 72-hour detention ordered by prosecutor Sinđić expires.
According to Martinović, certain items listed in the original criminal complaint were exempted from the investigation order - bulletproof vests and a part of the weapon for which it was later determined that there was a permit.
"In relation to the criminal complaint from last night, an order was passed to conduct an investigation in which there is not one part of the case that the prosecutor put in the criminal complaint, that is, that the police identified as a criminal offense. First of all, there are no body armor anymore because it is not a criminal offense, there are no weapons that supposedly existed, for which they found that they had a permit. There are still some weapons for which I claim that there is a permit, they could not find it, but we will find it," Martinović said last night. broadcast by the Nikšić Radio and Television portal (RTNK).

Đukanović was brought before the investigating judge of the Basic Court in Nikšić last night around 7:00 p.m., and the hearing ended a little before 9:00 p.m.
Yesterday, his defense was provided by a three-member legal team consisting of Đukanović's sister, lawyer Ana Đukanović, and her colleagues Neda Ivović and Martinović.
A group of relatives and friends of the arrested Đukanović, including the wife and son of his brother Milo - Lidija and Blažo Đukanović - were gathered in front of the Nikšić court building yesterday.
Aco Đukanović was arrested on the night between February 27 and 28, around 2:30 past midnight, after a search of his property in Podgorica and Nikšić.
The Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić announced that after the hearing, he was detained for up to 72 hours due to the well-founded suspicion that he had unauthorized possession of weapons and ammunition in the family home in the Rastoci neighborhood of Nikšić. The reason for detention was the risk of escape.
According to unofficial information from "Vijesti", Đukanović has crossed the state border more than 20 times in the past six months.
After several hours of hearing at the prosecutor's office, Martinović said on Saturday evening that part of the found weapon belongs to Milo Đukanović, while he inherited the other part from their late father and there is documentation for it.
"Some rifles were found with a dedication to his brother Milo Đukanović, and it is definitely clear that those guns have nothing to do with Aco Đukanović. There was also a quantity of weapons found that belonged to his late father, for which there is documentation. The police took all those weapons. They will be the subject of an expert examination, and I don't think there will be any dispute about that. Aco agrees to report it. DNA was taken. As far as we know, DNA will absolutely certainly to show that Aco Đukanović has nothing to do with those rifles," said Martinović.
