Less than a year before death, George Orwell, author 1984 i Animal farms he compiled a list of covert communists from journalistic and artistic circles and handed it over to agents of the Foreign Office's Information Research Division. In the first September issue of "The New York Review of Books", Timothy Garton Ash gives a new interpretation of Orwell's list - in the first part of this interpretation, published in the last issue of "Time", Ash describes Orwell's motives and states that the writer gave his list to the clerk Celia Kirwan on her initiative.
