Interview: Nemanja Nenadić, program director of Transparency Serbia

Things are even worse.

"It is very wrong that Serbia's progress in the fight against corruption at a high level is measured only on the basis of statistical data on the number of indictments of the Prosecutor's Office for organized crime and accompanying verdicts. In Serbia, the performance in that field should be measured first of all by whether there were cases where the corrupt participation of high state officials was suspected - and those cases were not investigated"

There will be no more withdrawals

The repression is intensifying. Now we already have detentions, closures, and there will be more and more of them. It shows that the regime is aware that it is no longer in such a comfortable position. That part of the opposition that is sincere must understand that the usual methods of struggle will not give results. And now the question is: are we ready for it or not? If not, then let's all retire to our homes and let this one rule for life

New school year

White strike and black reality

The struggle to fulfill the requirements for amending the Criminal Code and increasing the salaries of educators is yet to come. At this moment, before negotiations with the Government on August 30, it is too early to talk about possible further protests. If there is a need for them, let's hope that the scenario of shortening classes at the beginning of each school year, seen so many times, is no longer the only way out. In any case, although they are not completely formulated in the same way, the union's demands are certainly not contradictory because they concern the same problems, security and financial, of all educational workers.

State and education

Will there be anyone left to teach our children?

The authors of the platform for saving education, primarily the deans of the most deficient faculties, presented drastic data on the state of education at a round table held in May. Professor Dr. Goran Roglić, dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, stated that in 2015, 26 students enrolled in chemistry, and in 2023, a total of three students. In 2015, 26 students enrolled in physics, but in 2023, only seven students. "The situation is similar at other faculties from our group", said prof. Roglić, "but it is dominant in teaching areas"

Interview: Jelena Stupljanin

Where is the strength and power of the "little man"

"My only idea, at the moment, is to respect the law, for the institutions to do their job. Regarding Rio Tinto, to open the documents, to give clear information, to have clear answers. As for obstetric violence, how terrible is it that a doctor called 'The Butcher' gives birth to women, there have been deaths of babies for years, and he insults mothers on a national basis"

Interview: Tamara Džamonja Ignjatović - six months after the tragedy in Dubona and Mali Orašje

Deep pain and grave injustice

A couple of parents from Dubona lost both children. They live from agriculture. When they deliver their goods to someone, sometimes they never get paid for it. They simply have no way to pay for their work if someone who owes them is "above the law". That man is in a pre-infarction state and the first thing the doctor advised him was that he should not do physical work. But he tells us: "What am I going to do if I can't work, how can I live, and even when I work, they cheat me." In fact, they all live with a "built-in", learned acceptance that injustice is a part of this life. They say so themselves, they are reconciled with that: "We are used to injustice, that's how life is."
